2008 Spring Break Trip: Georgia

Description of Trip taken:

georgiaExploring Georgia

Our trip will challenge students to explore these problems firsthand. We will meet with officials in business and the government, hearing what they have to say about their country and asking them what more can be done. We will also meet with students and NGOs for different perspectives on Georgia’s experience with development.

Finally, we will take the time to see significant cultural and historical landmarks, including, for instance, the ancient capital Mtskheta and Stalin’s hometown, Gori.

Serving Georgia

georgia2Only part of our trip will be spent in Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital. After a few days’ introduction to the country, we will be departing into the beautiful Georgian countryside to work with those left behind Georgia’s tremendous economic growth. Our community service work will focus on improving public health conditions in the countryside as well as working on local infrastructure projects.

We will be based in the rural Kartli region for five days, working with NGOs like The Curatio Foundation that maintain on-going public health and rural development projects.
