Membership

How do I become a member?

To become a member of YIRA the requirements are threefold: 1) join the mailing list, 2) staff one of the two major Model UN conferences (SCSY or YMUN), and 3) be inducted into the organization during the induction process held during the Spring Semester of every year.

What does it mean to be a member?

Membership makes it possible for you to take advantage of all the resources that YIRA has to offer. Members are eligible to apply for the Summer Study Fellowship, take part in the subsidized annual Spring Break Trip to an international destination, attend the spring and fall banquets (held last year at the Graduate Club and the Union League Café), and are given priority at all events and dinners organized by the Yale International Relations Association.

YIRA Opportunities: It's your World, Live in It

The Yale International Relations Association prides itself not only on the ability to provide world-class Model United Nations experiences,To this but to enrich the individual through a plethora of international opportunities and experiences. Additionally, YIRA believes strongly in the maxim that a life that is not enjoyed is also not worth living, providing a multitude of opportunities to engage with the membership of YIRA on a far more personal and social level.

To this end, YIRA provides for its membership a multitude of international and social opportunities, amongst these:
  • Trips to international destinations - In the past, these have included:
    • China
    • Georgia
    • The Netherlands
    • Kenya
  • Banquets in the Spring and Fall
  • Dynamic happy hours
All of this is posible because of the dedication of YIRA members to not only provide world-class international and Model United Nation opportunities, but also to create an organization that is warm and inviting, striving to be the means in which individuals form life-long friendships with other students at Yale University through our variety of social events.
