YIRA Trips
Every year the Yale International Relations Association offers its
members an opportunity to travel to an international destination over
spring break for the purposes of engaging in project or activity
related to the field of international relations. The cost of the trip
is heavily subsidized by YIRA and the trip is usually limited to no
more than fifteen people. These trips generally have 8-12 YIRA members
traveling as a group. Recent trips have included election monitoring in
Kenya (2008), Mauritania (2007), and El Salvador (2006); service
oriented trips to Georgia (2008) and the Philippines (2007); and
international Model UN conferences in China (2008), Netherlands (2007),
Geneva (2006), and Egypt (2005).The principle objectives of the mission are to contribute to free and fair elections; generate a safe environment to stimulate democratic participation; support social and economic justice; deepen our understanding of the social and economic structures that govern the country, and assess the effectiveness of observer missions to promote democratic participation in the electoral process.
If you have an idea for an interesting international excursion, contact the YIRA President to find out how YIRA can help make your idea a fun and educational trip.
