Staffing

Thanks for your interest in staffing Yale Model United Nations!  YMUN will be held from January 19-22, 2012, and we encourage anyone interested in getting involved to do so as soon as possible!  Newcomers to the conference will be placed into one of the following two roles depending on interest and previous experience:

• Committee Staffer: As a crucial member of a committee's dais team, you will be able to research and help write the topic guide and to communicate with delegates before the conference, answering questions and forwarding relevant news articles you find.  During the conference, all dais team members will have the chance to moderate with the gavel in hand, timing speeches and calling on delegates.  Committee staffing is a great leadership experience in which you get to really guide the flow of debate in your committee while interacting with delegates face-to-face, often giving you the opportunity to share your experience at Yale with these high school students.
• Crisis Team Staffer: In the crisis rooms of our dynamic Specialized and ECOSOC committees, staffers use their creativity to think of unique crises and real-time problems for delegates to debate and then act upon.  In the past, these crisis have been part of committees ranging from the Elizabethan Privy Council to the Afghanistan Government-Taliban Jirga JCC.  As a member of a crisis team, you might produce multimedia news reports (video or audio), type up breaking news articles, or act as a guest speaker in committee. 

Both of these experiences allow you to get to know the fellow YIRA members in your committee, and fulfill the YIRA membership requirement that gives you access to perks like subsidized international and domestic trips, happy hours, end-of-semester banquets, exclusive speaking events, and more!  Beyond these general benefits, you will be part of YMUN-exclusive events, like our annual post-conference social!
