About MUNTY

The Model United Nations Team at Yale is Yale’s competitive Model UN team. Consistently bringing home awards from every conference it attends, MUNTY has proven itself as one of the world’s top collegiate Model United Nations teams. Each semester, new MUNTY members are selected from among the Yale undergraduate student body through a highly competitive audition process. MUNTY members then attend several conferences per year, one of which is typically an international conference, WorldMUN. In years past, MUNTY has attended conferences in Egypt, China, Germany, Singapore, Rome and Brussels. In addition to fulfilling their responsibilities to the team, MUNTY members maintain an active presence in YIRA as a whole, serving as directors, chairs, and secretariat members for other YIRA constituent programs.

MUNTY Tryouts

MUNTY Tryouts are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters each year.  Detailed information about tryouts is available at MUNTY's many recruitment events held throughout the academic year. Details can also be found in the weekly newsletter sent out by the YIRA Secretary.

The number of new members varies each year based on the strength of the talent and enthusiasm demonstrated within the applicant pool; there exists no set number of students chosen to join the team. Previous Model UN experience is not necessary, and many of our members had no Model UN experience prior to joining MUNTY. Consequentially, tryouts are tailored to look for talent and potential, not previous MUN experience.

To sign up for tryouts or for more information, email the head delegate, Andrea Fleming, at munty@yira.org.
